Property owners have reduced huge sums from their original
asking prices in a bid to attract purchasers. The total amount
slashed from the asking prices of all properties currently for sale
across England stands at £2.5 billion.
Zoopla, a portal who advertise hundreds of thousands of properties
for sale, offer a unique option on its website that allows visitors
to sort search results by properties that have been most reduced in
price, highlighting potential bargains to home buyers throughout
England.
The City where the largest discounts are available is Glasgow with
an average price reduction of 9.2% or £12,566. Home owners in
Blackpool are also showing a motivation to sell by knocking 9% off
their original asking prices on average. Maidstone is also in the

by 8.5% or £19,668.
Another interesting statistic is not just the amount of that
properties are reducing but the number of properties that are
reducing. Rochdale tops this table with, 49%, of sellers having cut
their asking prices at least once. Other areas with over 40% of
available reducing there asking prices include Chesterfield at 45%
and Rotherham at 44%.
Market comments
‘With the current average discount that buyers are
negotiating standing at £19,580 it has become apparent that
sellers are responding to the reality of recent market adjustments
as said by Location director Richard Willis.
Richard also commented,
‘As always competitive pricing is paramount although there
are less homes available currently, buyers are able to conduct a
large amount of research on their potential purchase. Motivated
sellers must research properties they are competing with and be
guided by comparable properties that all good estate agents
provide. If homeowners place properties onto the market without
conducting the relevant research they may find themselves on the
market longer than they had originally hoped.
